This part of dentistry
covers the tooth replacement techniques. Missing teeth used
to be replaced not too long ago with 3 unit porcelain fused
to metal bridges. The adjacent teeth to the space were filed
and capped. Nowadays we can replace these restorations with
all porcelain bridges which havee the same strength but much
higher esthetic value. (Cannot be used for all cases). The adjacent
teeth next to the missing tooth also benefit a great deal since
they don't have to be shaved. They only need to have a conservative
preparation in the mid section of the tooth to accommodate the
supporting wings/inlays.
